Excellent port I'm using the 'Android TTY' display mode and vi-keys (hjkl) movement, and it works really great. You kind of have to use the built-in keyboard, though, since it won't recognize control characters from Hacker's Keyboard.
It is the nethack experience Controls are still quite complex, but they have made some improvements over the original. Better tilesets would be great, but would require a talented pixel artist who doesn't rely on cartoonizing everything.
Good Only a single problem: when I choose the quit option after death, my score is not entered into the top ten list. Edit: oh, I'd also like to use my own keyboard, instead of the one built into the game. An option to change would be nice.
Game freezes and must be killed anytime I do #quit or q after death. This only happens since the last update. Moto Droid. Still a great game/port.
freezes up Samsung GT-P5113 Great Game played this before on various Computers...But It Does not Work Right on my Samsung GT-P5113 it freezes at "who are you?" only way to exit is to kill app Software keyboard never presents itself either pleas fix asap!
Fabulous On Transformer this is just as good as on a laptop. And I'm an ansi tty old timer. I'll report more after the ascension. There is one screen related rendering bug present though. It gets all messed up sometimes, but I just move away from that area and save and restart.
Good game, bad UI NetHack is a classic and lots of fun. Unfortunately, this is a pretty direct port of a game that really expects a keyboard. Interactions could be much more enjoyable if the controls were remade with tablets in mind.
Could be a lot worse... I like the fact that it's similar to what you will find in the Linux repos, but it really needs a revamped UI for Android.
This is exactly what it is advertised to be. The controls for a little bit difficult to use but that's exactly what Nethack is.
It rules! Excellent port of an excellent game! Takes some getting used to for someone who used to play Nethack with a PC keyboard, but it is perfectly playable. I strongly recommend this to any Nethack-fans out there!
Superb port. Very impressive. Love the new features. A heart over my pet would be great, to avoid being bitten by mutts that I think are mine...
Decent, but... Decent game, but the other version of this game on android (with the blue shield icon) is simply the best. Many more options, more (built-in) tiles, & cheat mode included!
NetHack on my phone! All in all a good port, especially when combined with the NetHack Encyclopedia app. The controls are somewhat awkward but I feel this is the best they could do given the nature of the original game. The default tile sets are nice. I play this all the time! :D
I appreciate this game This was an era of possibilities. It relied on imagination and good storytelling to make its world live and breathe. Honestly, I don't know if I want to go back to where the RPG marketing looks like a gaudily decorated Asian restaurant. This is where I'd rather spend my adventuring time.
Classic style To load save, enter the same name. Better than gurr for some things, worse for others.
Extremely disappointing. Movement was unreliable and erratic at best. Great concept, poorly executed.
Pretty good Well adapted for Android. Not as good as Linux's, but still better than Angry Birds, that's right. I would recommend it
As far as I can tell this is a flawless port. OSK can be frustrating and I wish it was easier to specify defaults.nh and Options e.g. auto_pickup...
Classic port Great port, love this game. For size complaints: try your volume buttons to zoom.
There are SO many things you can do in this game. Just as fun as when i first played years ago. Great job!
Nethack @ stratosphere ftw Awesome playing this port with a slide out keyboard. Looting with center click a good idea
Nethack is a great game on a PC, but using the same keyboard-based control in this mobile version makes the playing experience rather painful.
Can't handle incoming call Good port of NetHack. Phone rang and the player file for what would have been first ascention was corrupted and NetHack couldn't recover it. Unfortunately can't find good Telnet app to play NAO from Android.
Good Conversation Well adapted to mobile. Way better than Angry Birds. Text sometimes fails to wrap properly though.
Excellent port. Best part is that the game is so dark, it doesn't use much battery, IME.
Excellent implementation of nethack!! Just a bit buggy after awhile. n1
I agree that the interface is kind of bad for nethack, no numberpad or comma key makes moving and managing items on the ground awkward.
Strange controls Played nethack for 20 ish years. Couldn't get the moving part down. Too bad, I had high hopes.
Not adapted for a touch interface, so borderline pointless on a touchscreen phone (screen taken by virt keyboard)
Decent port of nethack to Android. However the selection lists are buggy when the list cross several screens. Nethack by gurr has a much smoother GUI.
Glitchy Sometimes won't load saved game, someone's loads game and then freezes after a couple of moves.
Keeps crashing Keeps crashing and doesn't support mapping the meta-key, otherwise a great Nethack port.
Well-ported! Control key combinations are awkward on Droid, but that's to be expected.
Controls are a bit awkward, but don't detract from the great game that this port is.
Brilliant to have NetHack on the android, but the interface implementation makes it cumbersome to play.
All you people complaining about the key layouts need to get a grip, its fine and no issue on a virtual KB.
Great port, but: descriptions of potions and wands are randomized, but visual appearance never changes (e.g. potion of sickness is always blue).
I love this game! Though if I hadn't been playing it for years I might be very confused by a lot of the gameplay
Fail after asking for name: "Cannot lock perm for unknown reason (30)". HTC Desire, on SD card.
Lazy port. Too small and uncontrollable. Why not map wasd for movement? Come on.
Port of the classic roguelike dungeon exploration game NetHack.Additional tile sets are available in separate package.
